About Me
espacio-audio espacio-audio (audio space) is a curated site-specific audio frequency dedicated to the promotion/ experimentation of audio art. It was created to addresses the lack of audio exhibition spaces in Houston, to serve as an outlet for audio experimentation, to promote audio artists within/ outside of the city of Houston and to challenge the physical boundaries of exhibition space through sound.
It is a drive-up/ walk-up audio frequency site-specific transmission. It can be comprised of, but is not limited to, conversations, sound projects, audio clips and various day-to-day sounds.
espacio-audio is currently one of a handful of audio dedicated exhibition spaces in Houston. This space was created to truly challenge the pendulum between an exhibition space and our everyday environments.
espacio-audio samples will be available online shortly however the space, or lack there of, encourages the site-specific environment. The short range of the frequency requires listeners to visit the designated site to fully experience the works. One of the benefits of site-specific or environment works is that they are temporary and even if recreated will never yield the same results.
theory
I really wanted to create a space that exists without a space and although it may sound contradictory I though the exercise of “conceptual space” was worth noting and created espacio-audio around it. Recently I have been trying to push the boundaries of curating within a gallery setting. How do you break down “white” walls and make an experience versus a gallery visit? It was extremely popular in the 1960’s to take part in “experience” environments coined installations. I am molding this space around that idea and hope that it provokes thought and creativity.
